Interview with Little Dipper Founder Emilie Drumm: Part I

Little Dipper Blog: What inspired you to think of and take on the work of founding Little Dipper?  Emilie Drumm: The idea for Little Dipper came to me while I was hanging out with my sewing friend, Rachel. We were laughing and commiserating about all the things that drive us nuts about traditional fabric buying. In the fabric industry, there are so many problems with quality. And a shocking number of businesses have been producing the same designs year after year since the 70s! It's rather sad. During that conversation with Rachel, Little Dipper came to me as an actual “Ah hah!” moment! Aloud I said, “Why not start a fabric business that allows a lot of different designers...

We're open for business!

Hello World! Over the past few weeks, our team at Little Dipper has been acquiring new stock and re-decorating our store. Now, we’re throwing open the doors to announce: Little Dipper is OPEN for business! “What does that mean?” You might ask. In answer, let’s take a little tour of LittleDipper.co. To start with, come see our fabrics. We have new fabrics!  Kat Uno returns with designs titled "Circle Spin," "Cloudy Rainy Day" and "Umbrella." Kat’s fabric designs come from a happy place. Honestly? We cannot resist how happy they make us, and we’re betting you’ll feel the same!  Gordon Silveria’s "Seeing Fortunes," "In Your Eyes" and "Stars" designs have just gone live. We’re excited about Gordon's artistic vision—and OMG! His fabrics!...

We're ready to dive in!

Hello World! If the quality of creativity were tangible like gold coins, our team at Little Dipper would behave like Scrooge McDuck: we’d cackle and toss handfuls of creativity into the air then we’d dive in and roll in the stuff. At Little Dipper, not only are we a team that works for a business that sells fabrics utilizing a crowdsourcing model, but we are a team comprised of artists and “creatives” like Keith and Emilie: surface designers, web designers, writers, cooks and makers. We revel in creativity—and we hope it shows! But creativity isn’t just a quality of art. Creativity is also the magic behind successful entrepreneurship. Before we launched Little Dipper, we dreamed of the fabrics we’d sell...

Interview with Little Dipper Co-Founder Keith Anderson

Little Dipper Blog: Why did you decide to join in founding Little Dipper? Keith Anderson: After experiencing founder Emilie Drumm’s loving and cheerful personality, along with her dedication to design, we became instant friends back in 2011. In 2012, Emilie told me about a dilemma she was facing as a surface pattern artist. She wanted to share her creativity with the fabric community but because she earned very little money for her designs, she didn’t feel that she would be able to continue. However, Emilie—who is creative in both visual design and business—had an idea for how to fix this problem. That idea became the beginning of Little Dipper. LDB: What is your background? Keith: Like individuals in our community,...

Reaching for the stars!

Hello World! Speaking of stirrings of excitement and inspiration, a few nights ago we sat under the dark sky, watching the supermoon turn red and rise over the horizon. It took us some exploring to find a swath of sky wide enough to watch the moon and to gaze at the stars. But for us at Little Dipper, watching that supermoon felt especially fortuitous because our Kickstarter campaign was also on the rise, stretching high, reaching toward the stars. In fact, as of today, October 1, 2015, we’re really seeing stars because after 30 days, 2 stretch goals + Little Dipper itself are funded via Kickstarter. We are humbled by the enthusiasm of our supporters, we are thrilled to have...
